What to do with Christmas Cards...

One of my favorite parts of Christmas is to get Christmas cards. I love looking at all the pictures of my friends and family, and to see how each card depicts the holiday season. My problem is what to do with them after. I can't bring myself to throw them away and I don't like them piling up on my desk.

Here is my solution:
It's a Gold Clip it Up Mini!!!

We've had several people complain that the black Clip it Ups don't match their craft rooms, so I decided to show you how you can 'customize' your Clip it Up!!!

It's easy all I did was go to my local craft store and purchase Krylon Gold Metallic spray paint. I sprayed the round base, pole, handle and tri-arm (remove the metal ring). Then used Tattered Angels gold glitter spray to add some shine. Next we decorated it using My Little Yellow Bicycle's 25 days of Christmas collection (Love, love, love this). Lastly we added some Christmas ribbon to the bottom and top.

Now I have a creative and fun way to visually display all my Christmas cards!!!

Leave me a comment on how you would decorate a Clip it Up and you'll have a chance to win a FREE Clip it Up Mini. I'll hold a drawing on Dec. 15, 2009. Make sure you come back and check to see if you won!!!

  1. Great idea for both the cards and the decorative touches. I like my colours bright and i have a thing for stripes or polka dots so I'd paint it a nice bright colour and use my Silhouette and vinyl to cut some stripes or dots to attach. Simple but cute!

  2. I love that idea. I would probably paint it a neutral and use my cricut to cut something to embellish it based on my bedroom decor. (I am redecorating so I don't know what that shape would be yet) then I would simply clip pics of the family up there to have near my bedside at all times. (I would probably do this with several throughout my house so guests could too enjoy this idea)

  4. That turned out really nice. I would use paint it pink and then glam it up with glitter and cut embellies with my cricut to give it more of a "me" look.

  8. I'm a big fan of Mod Podge, so I would probably decoupage it with scraps of my favorite patterned papers, then add a thin ribbon around the base with a tiny bow.

  9. I would love to decorate one and use it to hang all my handmade cards on it. That way I could enjoy them before I give them away - instead of shoving them in a drawer somewhere! I think it would be fun to decoupage the top with vintage images and silk flowers.

  10. I would spray paint mine blue and then use flourish rub-ons and rhinestone swirls to decorate the base and on top I would attach a Rooster figurine to match my kitchen! That way I could use it all year to hold mail, receipes, notes, cards and other random things that always end up in there :)

  11. I would probably paint mine orange and decorate it with teal colored embellies. I might even tie a few orange and teal ribbons on it. Along with flowers on the bottom.

  16. I think it would be great in patriotic colors using either the blue or red as the primary color and putting a small flag on the top. For military families with loved ones overseas, they could use it to display letters from their loved ones. If they had kids, they could spin it around and choose a letter to re-read from their dad or mom. Thanks for the chance to win!

  17. I love bright spring or summer colors. So I would paint the base and pole yellow or burnt orange. I would embellish it with cute die cuts/stickers of flowers and/or swirls. So I would make it look like a patterned paper that I love. I would hang my acryllic stamps there so that since the display is so cute, I would use my stamps more often. Oh I would also put fancy looking ribbon that coordinate with the base color.

  19. I would do one of two things with it:

    1. I would paint it barn red, like my kitchen and embellish it with roosters and hang my favorite recipes on it.

    2. I would paint it a beige or taupe color, embellish it with stamps/envelopes and use it to hang address cards from it.

    thanks !~

  20. I would paint it my favorite color tiffany blue and then punch out small circular BW photos of my kids to glue to the base so I could see their smiling faces when I flipped through my goodies!

  22. Great idea! I would paint it a neutral color and embellish it then hang pictures of my daughter on it and use it as a brag book of sorts for my desk. I would mount the pictures on chipboard that has been covered in patterned paper.

  23. With Valentines coming I would love to decorate one with the divider being hearts. I would hang past (and hopefully present) Vantentines cards between the dividers!

  25. Hi. I have one that has my bead hanks hanging from it. I have been thinking about coating the bottom with and assortment of seed beads with some larger beads thrown in there. And then perhaps some beaded trim along the edge. I think that would look and feel cool!

I also have tons of Tim Holtz alcohol inks. Not sure how well those would work on it, but they are always fun to play with.

    Happy holidays!

  26. I would paint it a bright and shiny red and white stripe like a candy cane. Then I would use rhinestones around the bottom circle. To finish it off, I would tie a Christmas ribbon on top with a sprig of holly tied into it. I think cards and pictures from the holiday would add just the right touch.

    Happy Holidays!

  28. Hmmm... good question! I would probably paint mine light blue since that is my main room color. Then I would decorate it with a little bling! Or maybe do some paint technique with brown paint on the blue to give it a distressed look.

  29. What a great giveaway! I would most likely spray paint it pink to match my room and add some ribbon, and rub-ons. Im always debating on buying one of these...

  30. What a clever idea! I'd paint it blue, stamp silver snowflakes and add snowflake stickers...this would be stored with the Christmas decorations at the end of the season...I'd need another for the scraproom: brown paint, turquoise polka dots and decoupaged ephemera! Fun!

  33. Okay I can see lots of uses for these little jewels! I need one for my scraproom, the living room, both girls rooms and for gifts. I would start by decorating one in a beach theme spray painting it a seafoam blue/green, then adding real shells and sand dollars then adding glaze and a sprikle of sand. Top it off with raffia and lovely silk ribbons finally adding all my beautiful beach photos collected from trips over the years. SIGH!! Okay let's hope my family gets the hint that I need several of these for Christmas!

    Thanks for the idea jumpstart!

  36. I love the idea - my craft room is pink so I would have to paint my pink but distressed pink, and lots of tim holtz charms and do dads.

  37. I would spray paint it brown and accent it with various ribbons throughout the year to decorate it. I would love to win one and can think of so many things for it to hold, recipes, ribbon, buttons, cards, a fun money tree as a gift holder for an upcoming party...(imagine that with gift cards, cash, cards and all with a pretty bow to match the occasion). Thanks for the chance to win!

  43. I would paint it with flames and put it into my sons room for him to hang his comic books on, he is starting to get quite a collection and doesn't have anyway to keep them organized, we could use the tag things to separate the different groups of the comic books.

  44. I love this! Because my daughter just got married this past Saturday, I would paint it blue, and embellish it with snowflakes and ribbons that were used in her wedding flowers, decorations, and favors. I would then make mini photo pages and display pictures of the wedding.

  45. What an amazing idea. I can't believe I never thought to decorate one before! I also love bright colours...I have yellow accessories in my scrap loft so painting one yellow and using some of the OA Report Card line to accessorize it would be a perfect way to keep track of all the crafts my dd brings home from school! She loves seeing them on display and this way we could spin through it together.

  46. I would spray paint it a color to match my scrapbook room. I would then add vinyl pieces and jewels around the base.

  47. I would paint mine orange and blue and i would cut out a vinyl gator head with my cricut. This would make it perfect for my Go Gators! scraproom.
