My First Farmer’s Market

I finally jumped in and had a table at a local farmer’s market. I was selling my metal stamped jewelry and all of my handmade cards. I have been hoarding these cards for so long, that i decided it was time to part with them to make room for all the new ones I have planned. So on Tuesday I decided I should decide on the design of my table. Yes, the market started at 4pm Tuesday evening (there’s nothing like working under pressure). So a quick run to the local thrift shop to search for racking and display items. I bought an old bed sheet, and some wire racks, and an old tool box. Planning to paint them white, I ran home with my newly found goodies. Looking at the clock, I realized there was no way the paint would dry in 2 hours...so they were going to have be be brass for just a little longer. So quickly thinking.... I emptied my Clip it up, and started filling it with cards. Why didn’t I think of that first? It really was the piece-de-resistance at my table. Here’s what my table looked like. Not bad for my first ( and fast) table design.

clip_image002[8]I loved the way the little tool box looked filled up with my cardsclip_image002[10]And here is the other side of my table. I used lid organizers to help display my cards. I read somewhere, that if you have a flat table, don’t be surprised if your sales are flat.clip_image002[22]So I lifted things up as high as i could. But I also made them available for people to touch. I know I love touching things when I shop. I also scattered caramels on the table to draw the buyers in. I don’t recommend this to anyone. I ate so many caramels, I had a tummy ache the whole day following.

clip_image002[16]Doesn’t my Clip It Up look fabulous. I never thought I would alter it, because it is perfect just the way it is.  But to fit in with my shabby chic tables I think it’s going to be white and chippy by the end of the week. I’ll keep you updated. I have also decided my next big purchase will have to be the Floor Model. I’ve been wanting it for some time, but have made the decision to splurge. I think it will finish off my table just perfectly.

Do you sell at Markets and Craft sales? I would love to see hear and see your table ideas. Leave a link here so we can all check it out. I am really looking forward to see how you sell your goodies, especially if you have a Clip It - Up

Bree

  1. I did my first farmers' markets this summer - it was too fun! While my table wasn't too inspiring, I loved the lady who used vintage hatboxes & suitcases to display her products, and the one who used enamelware containers and barn wood boxes. My bread looked pretty on a quilted runner, and I'm already thinking of display ideas for next year!

  4. The Clip it up is a great way to display a lot of cards. I hope you had a lot of sales. I used to sell silk scarves at craft shows...it was a lot of work!

  5. Your table looks fantastic! I hope that the farmer's market was a success for you!! I've thought about doing a farmer's market at some point in the future, but on Wednesday, I just opened an Etsy shop to sell purses and necklaces (paper art hopefully in the future...)! :)

  10. I did craft shows a loonnnnggg time ago with my cousin. We actually did quite well.I do remember how we agonized over our display. If we would have had a couple clip it up's the set up would have gone much easier.
Can't believe you could pull that off including the shopping in a mere couple hours!
Very nice, I hope you did very well :)

  11. I have not sold at a farmers market, but it's a great idea. We only have market here in the summer months so will have to wait to give it a try.

The floor model clip it up would be awesome, along with one of the vintag wire dress forms. Perfect to showcase jewelry. I can picture it, just need to make it happen!

  13. I haven't sold lately, but when I did I used apple crates on the card tables to create different heights. Also, I have Christmas throws that I used for table covers for the season, light weight throws for the rest of the year. Had baskets everywhere, turned every which way, for dimension.

  16. Bree you forgot something! How did you do? I bet you were a sell out! Especially those cards, from the ones I can see they are C-U-T-E!

I've never tried but I signed up for a crafters fair this may to sell cards. I'm nervous and hope that I make enough/get them done.

Thanks for the idea about not keeping things "flat"!

That floor model would be great for this, imagine all the things you could display with it *drool*
