Happy Birthday Clip It Up and Little Yellow Bicycle Style!!!!

I am so excited to share some photos with you of an altered Clip it Up I made using the Little Yellow Bicycle Cupcake Love line.  I spent a TON of time on this, and I am so happy with the way it came out.  My daughter's birthday was on May 16th, and she turned 2, so I based it around that theme, and the "cupcake" theme from the papers.

CIU-cupcake-and-party--stan

I used two paper mache hat boxes from my local craft store and painted them white and put a crackle and glitter finish on them with a clear varnish.  I used some of the Little Yellow Bicycle sprinkle stickers and decorated the edges.  I found some beaded string that I draped around the cakes and I made the "Happy Birthday" banner from Little Yellow Bicycle papers.  There is a "cupcake Love" banner, too, on the other side, but I forgot to photograph that.  That came in one of the packages of stickers from  Little Yellow Bicycle.  I added some trim to the base of each cake tier.

The #2 on top of the stand was covered in Little Yellow Bicycle  paper and is glued to some spools which I painted white to give it a bit more lift.  I used some floral picks from the craft store and drilled a hole in the top of the two and glued them in to make a splash of bling from the top of the stand.  These tiers are meant to hold cupcakes, of course!  :)

This was a great excuse for me to make some yummy vanilla cupcakes.  I used the "Cupcake Wrappers" cartridge for the Cricut to cut the wrappers and the scalloped circles for the cupcake picks.  I used stickers from the Little Yellow Bicycle embellishments to decorate each pick and added them to the cupcakes.  Some of the wrappers are decorated with some lace crape paper from Little Yellow Bicycle, too.

For the Main Base Clip it Up itself, I painted it white and added some ribbon down the center pole.  I used a scalloped circle paper from Little Yellow Bicycle for the base, which fit perfectly, and them added trim around the outside edge of the base.  On the metal circular bar, I strung some sparkly star garland, and added three large white bows to each end of the arms of the top of the Clip it Up.

The "cones" are meant to hold party favors, but they are actually party hats!  I used my SCAL program to cut them on my Cricut, added a pom pom to the top, some ribbon trim around the edges, and some pretty elastic ribbon to go under your chin!  Each hat is held by a clip which has a white bow tied to it.

It really turned out just as I had imagined it, although it is much taller than I thought it was going to be!  :)  Charlotte had such a fun time at her Birthday and the stand was a big hit.  But NOW what am I going to do with it?  :)

  1. What a absolutely darling make-over for the CIU. Audrey you did a fabulous job! When we sent you LYB product to work with, I was excited to see what you'd do because it is so cute!
You've set a high standard for b-day parties that's going to be hard to top each year, but I'm sure you're up to it! Your daughter is lucky to have such a creative mom!
    Great job! LOVE IT!!!!!!

  2. I'm not sure I've ever had a super-creative birthday project yet but I'm sure they'll start ramping up now that my son is old enough to know what birthdays are all about. :) The closest would be going with a whole robot theme last year for his 3rd. Handmade robot invites/thank yous, a robot-shaped/decorated cake, robot crafts for the kids to do and a robot holding the utensils in his head-bucket and cookies for later in his chest-bucket. Sounds weird but it was pretty cute.

  3. Very creative! My most creative birthday project ~ I completed 1st year scrapbooks for my nephew and for my niece.

  4. Most creative b-day present was a mini album I made for my mom with pockets and tags and a little jar with random questions about childhood memories. She can pick out a question at any time, put the answer on a tag and put it in a pocket. Thank you for the giveaway!

  6. That is one of the cutest and most awesome creations I've ever seen! Last year, we took our daughter to Disney for her fifth birthday and the way we told her about it was to show her the first page in the scrapbook I started with a poem I wrote announcing she was going to Disney World. It was also one of the best memories I have of her reaction when she realized what was happening! Happy Birthday! By the way, my birthday is next week -- I would love to share the celebration with you by winning some goodies...!!

  10. My most creative birthday project was a cake for my son's first birthday. I gave him a Peter Rabbit party, all home made. The cake was Mr. McGregor's garden, with a picket fence, chocolate cookies for dirt, and almond past veggies (colored to look real). It was an amazing cake, and an amazing party!

I bet your daughter was so happy...

  12. Your project is amazingly beautiful!!! I did a bear cake for my daughter's first birthday and decorated all the way with a decorative bag and tip and candies, it was cute though!!!

  13. The bday cake tier is fabulous! For my husband's 40th (blues brothers theme) I made 12 centre pieces for each table, black hats filled w/handmade chocolate lollipops in music notes, number 40 and dolly parton lollies (a friend actually had this mold) and that is the one that everyone wanted to have :)

  14. What a delightful project!! My favorite birthday project was when my husband turned 50 and my daughter graduated from college. I surprised them BOTH as they each thought the event I was planning was for the other. The look on their faces when they walked in together and saw half of the space decorated for each of them was PRICELESS.

  15. Last year for my son's 40th birthday, I ordered a simple white cake, then scanned and copied a picture of him from birth to 39 years. I attached each picture to a small dowel rod and poked these into the cake, elevated each row.

  16. That is so adorable, I wish I was half that creative. I am not a super duper creative person so my most creative birthday project would be a little birthday mini book I did for my little girl.

  17. Audrey that is ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!!!!!! Most creative birthday thing was make a happy birthday banner I know nothing to creative.

  18. I have not gotten too creative,I always make my son's cake based on the theme, and they get pretty elaborate! One year I did make the birthday invitations and one year I could not find Mickey confetti for the tables so I punched it all out!

  19. What a wonderful project. The most crafty thing I did for a birthday party was for my oldest daughter's 3rd birthday. She loved Disney's Pochahontas and I made her a Pochahontas cake and iced it accordingly. It was a lot of fun and it turned out beautifully. To this day (she's almost 18) she still talks about that birthday as her favorite.

  20. I made a huge banner with my Cricut, matching cupcake flags, cupcake invites, and a "2" on a cupcake pinata for my little girl's birthday! So much fun!!

  21. Wow! that is so cute, and very clever too! Thanks for the inspiration to "think outside the box."
The most creative thing I've made for a birthday would be for my Star Wars loving son. Using a drawing from a coloring book, I made a paper mache C3PO pinata. It took forever, but was so worth it in the end when he saw it!!

  22. On my brother in law's 60th birthday we had rented 60 pink flamingos. They were put all over his side lawn where everyone neighborhood would see. We made a huge sign to wish him a Happy Birthday!!!
We thought it was a lot more fun than he did.

  23. The most creative is that I made a cake slice and put all 12 together to form a cake. I did this for our Red Hat Birthday Party and filled each favor box with chocolate.

This is what it looked like

  25. My son's birthday is in Feb and one year we had a Ghost Party theme. We had a storm that day and lost power, so it was perfect to have the party with the lights out!

  29. I made all the decor for my daughter's 9th birthday... themed Harry Potter. Right down to the 9 3/4 Hogwarts express sign.

I just moved into a new home and I could really use a Clip It Up for my new scrappy abode! :)

  30. Happy 5th Birthday! This is fabulous! I love the hanging treat cups!!

  31. The Clip It Up really was magnificient to use to make this tall tower of party goodness! You really did a fantastic job!! My own endeavors include making pinatas from covering the outside of boxes with crepe paper fringe (Color of theme), with curling ribbon dangling down (only one really opens it), and a figure of the character on top of the pinata. T-shirts made with napkins "glued" (washable) of the theme on the fronts. All shirts bought ahead for each child so they could wear them and as a party favor. The pinatas were filled with toys from the theme, and candy. Large cookie cakes with characters atop. My favorite was Pinocchio because of how creative it made me go due to not having party theme items. It really helps to be creative and able to make things to please our beloved children!!! I find that it saves money too.

  32. Beautiful cake!!! My most creative b-day project was a little purse i made out of paper for my niece. I usually give a giftcard or cash and instead of a plain old card I thought giving her the purse to open up and the gift being inside would make a good presentation. It was a hit.

  33. My most creative birthday project was making a Pokemon cake (like the poke ball) and making a Picachoo pin the tale on the Picachoo... for my son many years ago! Thanks!

  34. A match made in heaven....My bottom row of my Clip-It-Up is full of LYB embellies!!! I'm not so big on the very creative side, but I did make my daughter a very cute Explosion Box full of photos for her birthday.
    Happy 5th Birthday, Clip-It-UP!

I believe that God gave us all one day a year to be our SPECIAL day, so I take that and run with it! 36. My daughter's 7th birthday party was the most creative birthday project. It was 'Secret Garden' theme. I made the invites, made bird in nest wands, and treat cones. I also decorated the gazebo in the park with hanging butterflies and decorated the tables with bird cages and made a flower tiara for the birthday girl. We also hid a section of picket fence with a keyhole on it and my daughter had the key on a ribbon around her neck. They had to search for the secret garden gate. My favorite birthday yet. -Alisa

  37. What an awesome birthday idea--and so creative Audrey!! I bet she had a great birthday! :)

When my son turned 10, I did a spy party for him and used my scrapbook supplies to create folders that had all the challenges and games in them. The kids had to decipher codes, make invisible ink, follow the clues and take notes to figure out who "stole" the presents. Everyone also had a code name for the party and nametag badges to wear. It was lots of fun!

  38. That was such a great idea! Would a diaper cake I made for a baby shower count fora birthday idea? It was so cute. I decorated it with scrapbook paper, ribbon and assorted baby items.

  39. Wow!!! My most creative project --- I have made a few fun cakes when the kids were little. Was before I scrapped so I did not make anything with paper.

  40. Wow, that is one amazing project!
My most creative birthday project was a scavenger hunt I sent my husband on around town. I gave him the first clue and he used that to find the 2nd clue. Then used that clue to find the 3rd clue, etc. The last clue was a hotel room key. What can I say? We were newlyweds!

  41. Hmmm, when my daughter turned 16 we rented the grange hall and had a surprise sweet 16 with a DJ and all. She loved it and the pictures from that night are priceless! Ohhh, thanks for the chance I have coveted the Clip it Up for so very long, I would love to win one!
